چکیده

Application of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to invasion percolation of single component multiphase fluids in porous media offers an opportunity for more realistic modeling of the configurations and dynamics of liquid/vapor and liquid/solid interfaces. The complex geometry of connected paths in standard invasion percolation models arises solely from the spatial arrangement of simple elements on a lattice. In reality, fluid interfaces and connectivity in porous media are naturally controlled by the details of the pore geometry, its dynamic interaction with the fluid, and the ambient fluid potential. The multiphase LBM approach admits realistic pore geometry derived from imaging techniques and incorporation of realistic hydrodynamics into invasion percolation models. r 2003 Published by Elsevier B.V. In this paper, the lattice Boltzmann method is reviewed for specific applications to numerical simulation of multiphase flow problems. A thorough literature review regarding the multi-phase lattice Boltzmann method was conducted with special focus on flows with large density and viscosity ratios between the two phases. A multiphase model with the capability of handling large-density-ratios is c...

Three-dimensional multi-relaxation time (MRT) lattice-Boltzmann models for multiphase flow

In this paper, three-dimensional (3D) multi-relaxation time (MRT) lattice-Boltzmann (LB) models for multiphase flow are presented. In contrast to the Bhatnagar-GrossKrook (BGK) model, a widely employed kinetic model, in MRT models the rates of relaxation processes owing to collisions of particle populations may be independently adjusted. As a result, the MRT models offer a significant improveme...

Performance analysis of single-phase, multiphase, and multicomponent lattice-Boltzmann fluid flow simulations on GPU clusters

The lattice-Boltzmann method is well suited for implementation in single-instruction multiple-data (SIMD) environments provided by general purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs). This paper discusses the integration of these GPGPU programs with OpenMP to create lattice-Boltzmann applications for multiGPU clusters. In addition to the standard single-phase single-component lattice-Boltzmann m...

Simulation of Lid Driven Cavity Flow at Different Aspect Ratios Using Single Relaxation Time Lattice Boltzmann Method

Abstract   Due to restrictions on the choice of relaxation time in single relaxation time (SRT) models, simulation of flows is generally limited base on this method. In this paper, the SRT lattice Boltzmann equation was used to simulate lid driven cavity flow at different Reynolds numbers (100-5000) and three aspect ratios, K=1, 1.5 and 4. The point which is vital in convergence of this scheme ...
